MADRON 2010

UPWARDLY MOBILE

Penwith Community Development Trust is leading activities for the young people of Madron of a minimum age of 13 years.  Every Saturday between 2pm and 5pm, during term time, a mobile unit will be in situ at Madron to provide facilities including a seating area, drinks, protective covering for shelter, heating and even wheelchair access.  The sessions are supervised by at least two qualified youth workers and further information can be obtained by contacting Phil, Rob or Deborah on Penzance 01736 334650.

HOUSING ADVICE AND SUPPORT
Do you need advice on benefits and services to which you are entitled?  Do you need help with accessing these benefits and services or with completing the application forms?  Do you need support with maintaining your tenancy and your independence?
If the answer to any of these questions is in the affirmative, Stonham can help at drop-in sessions which are held every Wednesday from 10am to 12noon at Penwith District Council Offices, Penzance.  For further information, you are invited to call Penzance 874970.

BEST PAW FORWARD

If your pooch is in need of some parental guidance, you can take him or her to dog training classes in obedience for dogs and guidance for puppies to show them how to behave.  The classes are held on Monday and Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings and they are open to dogs and handlers of all abilities and ages.  The classes are held in the St. Just area and, if you are interested, you may obtain further details by calling Penzance 788664 or  0770 105 4492.

WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE CAR
West Cornwall Community Wheels, has recently been able to secure funding to purchase a wheelchair accessible car. Passengers in wheelchairs are now able to book a volunteer driver to take them to their appointments at the local surgery or hospital. The vehicle is also available to hire at an affordable price.
From mid July, Community Wheels will be introducing its new Treliske Traveller service using the vehicle. The service will be open to people of all abilities. Every Monday afternoon, we will be organising a trip from Penwith to Treliske Hospital, which will be ideal for visiting or appointments. By encouraging passengers to travel together, the costs will be shared and in this way, community wheels hopes to provide good value for money to its customers.
For more details, contact 01736 757364.

REAL MEAL DEAL

Did you know that meals on wheels can be delivered to the elderly and housebound who live in the Madron area? This service is now available throughout all seven days of the week; anyone who wishes to avail himself or herself of this service is asked to contact Mr Michael Rowe on Penzance 850826 or he can be reached on 0773 868 0852. He is waiting for your call.

DRESSING DOWN

Everyone knows that, the more one puts into life, the greater is the return. The gardener understands this maxim in that well dressed beds will provide fruit and vegetables with enhanced flavour, as well as more splendid flowers.
If you consider that there is nothing more beneficial than the organic option when it comes to manure, Madron Young Farmers’ Club is on hand to grant your wish. The members are able to supply organic dung at a cost of £5 for four bags which will be delivered to your door; with each additional bag being priced at £1. An alternate method of purchase is available at £40 for a complete load.
You are invited to place your orders by making a telephone call to Richard on Penzance 796924 or to Simon on 0797 035 0837. The proceeds of this venture will be divided between Madron Young Farmers’ Club and Cancer Research UK.

The Barn Owl Trust  asks members of the public to report all sightings of these majestic birds;  anyone with relevant information should contact the Trust on 01364 653026.
